Chrome plating is a complementary process to a nickel plating. A thin layer of chromium is applied on the previously prepared nickel layer. Unlike hard chrome, the decorative chrome is thinner as the aesthetics comes to importance. The main advantages of decorative chrome, besides its decorative value, are high anti-corrosion protection and outstanding durability.
As chrome plating is designed to add the aesthetics to nickel layer, there are as many applications of this process as in the case of the nickel plating. The decorative chrome is used in finishing the surfaces of jewellery, automotive elements, household items or different kinds of screws and bolts.
